A Good Sabbath Day

Hey all. That was quick and to the point.

Anyway, we had a different schedule yesterday. Because our church building is in bad enough shape we can't worship in it, we meet in the United Presbyterian church building here in Belle Center. They had their annual congregational meeting today, so our worship started at 2:30 PM, instead of 1:00. We also didn't have Sabbath School. Anyway, the worship was very good (humanly speaking.) We had an attendance of close to 40 people, which is a little bigger than normal. It's always nice having more people there!

After church, we had the
Mortons from church over for dinner. That was a really enjoyable time. After dinner, we had a miniature Psalm sing, which was not only enjoyable but also edifying. It's wonderful having dear Christian fellowship on the Lord's Day. Well, any day is wonderful to have Christian fellowship, actually.

We went back later for church in the evening, at 6:30. The sermon was on the first part of the story of Lazarus in John. One thing that really struck me was how Mary and Martha worded their message to Christ. In it they didn't ask for help; they just told Jesus of the situation, and left it up to Him to know what to do. As well, they said, "he whom You love is sick." It just suddenly hit me--Christ loves me! He loves me who, every day, sins and adds on to the burden He had to bear. He loves me who, every day, does at least one thing that is definitely contrary to the witness all those in Christ are supposed to have. I pray that all you reading this would realize this as well, and think on it for a long while. It is so helpful to realize this, for we know that in all situations, because Christ loves us, He will work for the best. He will triumph over all situations in this world. It is just incredible having God on our side.

After the evening service was over, I ended up talking on Yahoo IM with several different people. Another Christian friend in the scout troop was one of them. He and I were talking of how, sometimes, it's very hard to keep up with Bible reading. By the end of the night, he'd come up with a Bible reading program that will take us through the entire Bible in 1 year and the Gospels 2 times a year. Both of us, along with another Christian young man from the troop, will be doing this program together, and will be striving to keep each other accountable.

Just after I finished my Bible reading this morning, I was thinking on how wonderful it is that we have God's Word easily available to us. How many millions of believers all over the world, I wonder, don't have access to God's Word like we do? They would happily give all of their earthly possessions to own this one book. And yet, we have many all around the house, but how many of us take the time to spend time in God's Word? It is something we should all look forward to. If you aren't already reading your Bible, please start! Think of it this way--do you have dear friends that live far away? Think of how much you enjoy talking with them, whether it is by phone, email, IM, or some other form of communication. But yet, our Lord is easily accessible, either through prayer or by His Word. Spend time in His Word daily; doing so will help you in your walk with Christ. He will show you wonderful things out of His word. Look up Psalm 119:18 to see what the psalmist thinks of the Word of God.

I think that's about it. Please feel free to contact me if you wish to see this Bible reading calendar. It isn't copyrighted or anything, so, if you want to use it, I can pass it along to you!
